Why do People Pour Milk on Snakes?

Do Snakes really Drink Milk?

People believe that offering Milk to Snakes on auspicious days is to negate their Dosh (Dosham in Tamil) which they have as per their astrological imbalance in the position of their planets. It relieves people from all the Dosh that lies ahead.

Can you believe it?

How can a Snake relieve you from your Dosh?

If you believe strongly that a snake has some power to negate your Dosh, then this post is not for you because I don’t want to break anyone’s belief.

Whether true or not, it happens naturally when you believe something and does it from your heart. It is a proven psychological fact.

Same way, if you believe that a snake will negate your Dosh when you feed Milk and pray to it, I’ll tell you what happens.

Your subconscious mind starts thinking you are now relieved from all your Dosh, so there will not be any problem in your life after that. Your thoughts throw away all the negative vibes held on until now, and the positive thoughts automatically bring the positive vibes into your subconscious mind. Then it gets all the good and positive things into your life.

So I don’t want to confuse the faith you have in snakes. Let it be.

You can continue reading if you want to know the logic behind it.

Do Snakes Drink Milk?

Yes, it does. But when?

There are so many reasons why people give Milk to Snakes. I will mention a few of them here,

People pour Milk to the anthill where snakes reside to

control reproduction

Do Snakes really Drink Milk?

  • Why do people pour Milk into anthills where snakes live?

In the early days, snakes were a big problem for humans since the population of snakes was higher than humans. So they tried to control their reproductive process.

The reproduction of Snakes is very different. The female serpent sends some aroma from its body, and in turn, the male serpent will reach the female by following the smell. When people keep eggs and Milk, the smell from the egg prevents the female snake’s scent from not reproducing. Looks funny, but when you think about it, you can understand how intelligent our ancestors were.

People pour Milk into the anthill where snakes reside

to attract other small animals

  • During the rainy season, farmers have so much work in their fields. At the same time, Snakes also come out from its anthill to get food. Until then, snakes would stay inside and wait for the cool climate. So there would be a lot of risk factors to the farmers who were working on their farms.

Our ancestors decided to put some milk and other food items in ants hill where snakes reside to attract the insects, frogs, etc., Then obviously, the snakes get enough food and would not come out, and farmers would be on the safer side.

Snakes drink when you pour Milk due

to Dehydration

Do Snakes really Drink Milk?

In some areas, snakes are trapped for a month before the festival (Naga Panchami) and are ill-treated by the snake charmers. There will not be enough food provided to the snake so that it drinks Milk during the festival while people are watching it, and the snake charmers can earn money from it.

Wrap-Up

Therefore, Snakes drink Milk just like other animals and us; they drink it instead of water to keep them hydrated. When they are kept starved for days or months and offered Milk, they drink it without any choice. Sometimes Milk leads to death also.

As per research, Animal rights activists and veterinary experts say a snake’s system cannot digest Milk. “Snakes are cold-blooded and carnivorous reptiles whereas milk is consumed by mammals.”

So there are various reasons behind it why people keep on pouring Milk to Snakes, and there is no such evidence to prove it negates your Dosh.
